I don't see the correct markers for #1 or #2 TP's. Do you have a photo of the 9?

Oakiecoiner
this is NOT about the 9 !!
it is the G in Gratia
Charlton page 276 of the most famous issue.
Obviously, this is not a 9/8 which is referenced at that page to also have a 3x punched G.
but, it surely looks like TP G in GGGratia
maybe it is not important as it goes some years back when it was published?
Giants
I know I should follow and consult JH's site. Never thought about it.
thanks guys

H ... When you said "TP", I thought that you were referring to the formally named TP1 and TP2 which deal with triple punching of the 9. They are specific names of '59's that have been discussed on here for a good many years. There are a number of other Vickies that have letters triple punched. And yes, I think that the G is TP'd..

Here is a link to a page in the Haxby catalog that shows a number of obverse dies with a re-punched G of GRATIA. The Obverse 72 that you found does show nice tripling.

A boldly re-punched letter is a good marker to help identify a die by comparing it to the photos in the catalog. There is a page for each of the letters of the obverse legend. Sometimes one letter will be enough to attribute the die.

thank you all,
very interesting.
Is there any significant value to the triple GGG?
or is it just a N9?

I think that it would have about a 50% increase in value from a normal narrow 9 so, if the '59 was worth $100 in that condition, yours would be about $15 ... just a guess.

If you look at the rarity scale on the Haxby site your coin is not rare or common, but might be considered a treasure in higher grades to someone who collects die pairs as not seldom found in high grades.
