1965 Lincoln Cent, Penn. Potential Obverse Error. Need Expertise Please.

I have checked error lists and am not finding an example.. quite likely some form of damage. running it by the experts. Note the "swoop" from top right all the way to bottom left, also a distinct discoloring under the "swoop," which traverses the text on the coin. Sharp eyes and wisdom needed. Thank you all. We see coins that have been sitting in car cup holders, but as @ijn, points out there are plenty of possibilities. In any case, this coin didn't leave the mint looking like this. Rothery Pillar of the Community 2145 Posts	Posted 02/28/2021 8:06 pm Looks like the cent was plated with a gold colored metal and the back seems to have some type of adhesive on it - so I'll guess glued into a key ring or other type of jewelry item? Report this Post to the Staff
Parnelli917 Valued Member United States 392 Posts	Posted 02/28/2021 8:17 pm I'm not an expert but I've always been told to never polish or even wash your coins. If you find a valuable coin, it would greatly diminish the value. The one thing you can do is soak a coin in pure acetone (not nail polish remover). Don't wipe or rub any coin that might have value. I even use cotton gloves when handling my coins! Report this Post to the Staff
