We really need the whole coin photographed, both sides please, THEN closeup areas. And please tell us what to look for (we're bad guessers). Tell us and show us.

Looks like a coating on the edge/rim/field area. Check to see if it is grease? A toothpick will move it if it is grease. It could be grease, glue, nail polish, varnish, any clear coating can make a coating on that area and move with contact.

Maybe it is a coin scratch on that area? I can see that area a lot better now.

Yeah, I'd say a scratch as well. Much better photos, thanks!

It's not a scratch It is metal raised above the surface look along the leg of the A there is more metal . The metal coming from the rim is attached to the rim in a continuous manner.

CHB, I will say metal move, from one or others reasons. I will not emphasis on because is not variety. your coin have one part: The eyes.
I look on my proof, NC and C and the eyes are same. this flat-ness maybe is grease? or other?, I can not pronounce.

Still don't have an explanation for what this is and no explanation for the metal deposit along the leg of the A

Ok. Check it out. Based on the images you posted, it looks like a scratch that either starts or stops near the "A", and it travels up next to the rim to some where not shown in your pics. And it does not look raised in the pics. You have the coin in hand and can look at it from different angles, with different lighting to determine the area in question is raised. Not saying it is not raised, but it doesn't look raised from the pics. My suggestion is for you to take full pic of front, and full pic of rear. And a clear close up pic or two of the area in question that shows that it is raised. I am sure you will get more answers.

These features are raised. If the was struck by another coin then why wasn't the rim affected? Don't buy the answers given. I'm a Mechanical Engineer with 40 yrs experience. I can analyze what I'm seeing and the answers given don't add up.
