Hi, I'm just hoping someone can help me figure out what the heck this thing is. I found it in a roll of coins I was searching through. The actual coin isn't magnetic, but the out rim is, so I figure someone wrapped it in the material. I'm curious if someone can help me out. 1964, no mint mark.    Created for an event and worn around the neck like a necklace. You have to be careful with copper items as they will make your skin sore on the area if touches. The bezel is just one way they can and this on a chain. CoopHome: What's a bezel?Edited by coop

Thanks for the quick responses y'all. I still don't understand why the coin itself is silver toned. I thought when the acid required to remove the copper overlay would eat away at the face of the coin, so I'm not quite certain what's going on with this interesting little fella. &  Although it may look grainy in the photos I've posted, in person the coin, although dirty around the edges, definitely doesn't seem to be damaged in any way. I'm stumped here. It's all I can do not to remove the bezel. |

Well the date is a 1964 right? The pre 1982 cents were mostly copper. To be silver, it had to be plated. Otherwise the would be red. If you took off the bezel, it would be a damaged coin. But as a bezel, someone might want it. Damaged, would not be a premium for any coin.
