Some doubt has been expressed in some of the above comments.
Perhaps this one could be justified to be sent for grading, not for the grade but
for an additional authoritative opinion on authenticity.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I was concerned because I could not see the periods due to wear..but the B is correct and slanted on bottom..the mm is also correct. I will bring it over to a dealer tomorrow for an in person look. Back to searching through those "valuable coins" rolls...lol thanks again everyone!

I'm not convinced about authenticity. The mint mark position matches one of the known positions for the S-VDB, but the S should be tilted right, and in the OP's coin it's perfectly upright. It certainly would be worth getting it authenticated by a TPG. Hoping for the best.

The OP's coin has the S exactly in mint mark position #2, but there's no tilt to the S. Here's a comparison with a genuine 09-S-VDB from an NGC article illustrating the 4 distinct mint mark positions. Perhaps it's an added mint mark? If it's a counterfeit, it's a very good one, and I would still suggest sending it in for an opinion.

Reading all these thoughtful, insightful, conflicting replies, it seems to me you've the numismatic equivalent of a severe toothache. You need to go see a dentist (make that a TPG). Sometimes the hobby demands the risk of losing a few bucks.

After I logged out last time, curiosity visited me, and so I visited my coin. I found the adventure interesting and wondered if anyone else on the thread would.

@Kcm, yours is a good example of mint mark position #4 with an upright S. Here's a good review of how to determine the authenticity of a 1909-S-VDB.

Hi all! Thank you again for all the interest and replies.....I brought the coin over to a PCGS dealer today..took a few minutes in back but it IS AUTHENTIC. He offered me $450 and he estimated the grade right where you all said about VF25_ I thought the price was a bit low. Will look into sending it in for grading..never did it before so another learning curve tot ankle I suppose. Stay Well All!

Not sure why authenticity is even being questioned here, it looks real 100%! Congrats on a great find!

I'm suspicious about that MM
I agree with this.

I do not believe this is a genuine 1909-S VDB.

Would the PCGS dealer you took it be able to do the paperwork and send it in for you? Sounds like that would be the easiest way if you have never dealt with PCGS before.

EDIT: The way the verdict of it being genuine is still up in the air then getting it graded should be your next choice. A PCGS dealer is a step in the right direction but a "Dealer" isn't a PCGS "Grader"

That dealer would not send it in for me...I am going to see if there is anyone close by to do so before I shell out "joining fee" plus grading fee. I might wait a bit to see what else ok' dad has here...going to take some time.

Unless it's an undiscovered obverse die, I still don't believe it's genuine. The mint mark simply doesn't match the position and tilt of any of the known obverse dies. We'll know for sure if you send it in for grading.

I would definitely send it in for grading to eliminate all doubts as well as get it slabbed in the process.
