Picked up this 1886 O Morgan a while back and I liked it because of the gorgeous colors. It appears to be VAM 1A. Thinking of submitting it to NGC.

I'll say the cheek holds it to MS-63.

The reverse is really clean, MS64 for me even with the cheek clashes.

I'd say MS-63. Nice clashed E. You don't even need focused pictures to see it!

above average strike for this year. obverse blotchy color and cheek area will hold it to MS63

It would be great if it is MS since this date gets pretty expensive above AU-58. Might be enough friction on the cheek to keep it in the AU range. If it makes MS I think the visible marks would limit the grade to 62 at best. Toning is nice and might boost the grade a notch. I'd think a sharp E-clash would further boost the value and appeal.
If you hope to realize a mint-state price someday I'd think certification would be mandatory. That way potential buyers would be confident they aren't paying MS money for an AU "slider".

Thank you everyone for the responses. I sent it off to NGC, so we will see what they say. I hope to slowly get my whole collection certified. At the very least to prove the authenticity of everything. Just heard back from my first submission that one of my dollars ended up being fake, but the proof Morgan I sent is going to get graded and encapsulated so I'm happy about that. Hopefully the rest of this next set of submissions including this Morgan go well. The E clash is very strong so hopefully that helps. Thanks again everyone!

clashing will not have any affect on grade

i had this one at MS63 but I think it may come back AU58. I'm not a fan of the toning on this one especially the obverse it just doesn't look right. hope it grades straight for you

hopefully this straight grades , there very expensive in MS. I do not see any wear but it is a little hard to tell by the pictures with the toning.

Came back from NGC as TOP-100 $1 VAM-1A1 ""BER"" CLASH
UNC DETAILS - ARTIFICIAL TONING
Not the worst outcome. Maybe wish I had put some acetone on it to get that toning off before sending it in, but it's still a very nice piece for my collection.

Acetone would not have removed the toning.
