Hello All,

I made a few post trying to help my dad establish a value or what coins he might need to hold on to. Since then he passed away and left a bunch of coins that need to be looked through, all these coins came from the bank, just to me clear.

Other than junk silver, what coins should I watch out for: coin, year and state. There are too many for me to look through all of them and go over them with a magnifying glass like he did. He has anywhere from 50 cent pieces to pennies.

Please any advice will help, thank you. Also, I wanted to thank this community for giving us one last bonding experience before he passed.

Well there are three sites, we use here a lot:
For cents only there is this one:
http://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php
For cents and other denominations these Two Cents:
Variety Vista:
http://www.varietyvista.com/index.htm
Doubled dies:
http://doubleddie.com/1801.html
Each site have there listing a bit different, but looking at certain years of coins will help you to determine what site/what denomination/what mint/what types of variety coins you are looking to match up to. It will take time and patience to learn all of this, so become familiar with the sites. Also you could buy a current Red Book to determine what prices and information that might be helpful to you. Here, we answer a lot of questions, so we can also help. (you might take a real interest in it yourself)

Well first of all to CCF

I think that you should pick out a nice coin that stands out to you and post it up here for all of us to see as well.

Welcome to the Forum. You've come to a phenomenal place to share and learn. Explore and Enjoy!

I agree that you may get bitten by the numismatic bug. This shouldn't be stressful, take your time. Appreciate the history. Learn about each denomination before you dive in.

Very sorry for your loss...

Best to pick-up a Red Book (doesn't have to be a 2021 edition) and just thumb through it one evening. That should give you a start as to value/rarity

Good luck and to CCF
