merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 03/16/2021 11:21 pm Well if it wasn't torched, it had acid dropped on it, or bad uneven grinding (as in a parking lot coin). My vote is heat, and it does not have to have blue/black discolouration (oxidation) to be a victim of a blowtorch. Damage can happen a million different ways, but this was not a mint error. And it's not a grease-filled die, as we see those everyday and the grease mushes or obscures coin features during striking (not "stamping"). Search " Grease Filled Dies" for examples. There is nothing in the striking of a coin at the mint to would leave a coin to look like this. to the CCF! Report this Post to the Staff
