Can someone give me a clue? Looks like the planchet was losing its cladding or something. The date and Liberty appear to be on top of this while the Lincoln portrait has it on the top. In God We Trust are also not showing this over the top so it looks like this was stamped on a poor planchet or something.

Maybe stored in a wet canvas bag, at one time, and that side was against the wet bag area. Thus discoloring the coin from the dirty canvas bag and water.

For fun, try soaking the coin in acetone. Can't hurt.
