Got this in a trade for a 1969 D Kennedy and a 1953 Washington quarter and two 1954 D P Roosevelt dimes. I'm dont know if it was a good trade but it was simple and I liked this coin. Dont know much about it. If your bored then I wouldnt mind some info. Thank you.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you got majorly ripped off.

This coin is mega common and base metal. The condition is very good to fine, which is basic for these coins, they are interesting but have basically no value (10 cents metal maybe as it has 10 grams of copper in it).

Numista link for you

British "silver" coins after 1946 are Cupro nickel (25% Nickel and 75% Copper) and 1949 saw a mintage of over 28 million examples. They are worth a few $$ in UNC and EF, but in VG they are worthless and scrap value only.

The 45 cents in American silver was probably NZ $12 worth of silver for a coin worth 10 cents. The seller got a bargain.

To be honest, I would suggest do your homework before you trade, sorry.

I sound harsh, but I hate seeing people ripped off - find the seller and demand your silver back and give him the same coins (45c) but in post 1964 coinage!

Ya I looked. How ever I did make up for it with the 1871 State of Jersey one twenty sixth of a shilling. If not I still have them for my collection. I was kinda on the spot where I couldnt do the research, but I really wanted that Schilling. It is a buddy of mine and he will make it right. Not harsh at all. I thought it was silver, but like you said research is key and I dont know much about foreign currency. Learning point though.
