Any help would be greatly appreciated to help identify if this 1960 P nickel actually is an error coin or just something that is often mistaken for errors, such as Machine Doubling. Some parts look as if was struck more than 2 times. Is there such a thing as machine tripling? I have mistaken Machine Doubling for double dies before so don't want to get excited without hearing from people who actually know about coin errors. thanks for all the help!
Machine Doubling and very late die state coin. All areas are affected by both. Die flow heavy to the rims and other areas reduced by MD. Not a doubled die. Note on this coin that the only areas showing distortion are on the outside edges on both sides. The inside design and devices look fine. Not a variety coin. A variety coin of that date show the spread more on the outer devices. This is not showing spread on any of the outer devices. Same year of Nickel, but a DDR: There is no spread on your coin, because it is not a doubled die. Just a die aging event and a post striking issue, damaging the devices with Machine Doubling.
