There are some counterfeit 1916 D that are die struck and the D can be deceptive. The D comes into play on most 1916 D counterfeits because of the added D and poor quality counterfeits. If you have concerns, my recommendation is to ask the dealer if he will stand behind the coin being genuine, and sent to a TPG for grading and authentication.
