Greetings!

I just purchased a lot of 200 UK uncirculated pennies at an estate auction, years being 1962-1964. 75-80% look MS63 or higher on the American scale. The whole lot was $20 (10 cents each). Sounded reasonable, but am interested to know about marketability from those who dabble in UK pennies more than I do. At listed values I don't have to sell many to get my $20 back.

Thoughts about how desirable these might be individually or in lots?

Stay well,

i guess not too to bad but yeah too many pennies for sure. Since there in very high grade might be a different situation I would say 1-2 dollar give its not in the UK, but if you want more than that I doubt you will get more than. For Australian's, US pennies are a real pain in the sense that some are worth keeping and other are completely not worth but since they are small and don't standout sorting is :[ .

here are the mintages
61: 48,313,400
62:143,308,600
63:125,235,600
64:153,294,000

I would like to see a photo of them as I find most UK pennies of that era are grossly overgraded.

Many may think they look MS63 but turn out to be MS61 if lucky and many are actually AU and even EF. A coin can have full lustre but still be only EF or even the higher grades of VF.

Also pennies are quite large coins (30.5mm - 9 grams - sorry can't translate into American measurements) and usually have marks, gouges and other faults from bulk mintings.

All pennies from 1962 to 1967 were put away in huge quantities in the UK and there are still unopened mint bags of them lying around. I think you paid a fair price but I don't imagine a British collector who didn't already have one would want to pay more than that for them.
