There are no listing for a D/S after 1955-D http://doubleddie.com/939955.html The 'S' mintmark was not used from 1956-1968. So how could it be a used in 1961?
I'm trying to figure out how to post the front and back of the coin it might take a week for this to happen stay tuned. I finally got this image posted
not too sure what is going on there, but the San Francisco mint was shut down. during this year.
Quote: The new Mint was opened in 1937. Beginning in 1955, circulating coinage from San Francisco was suspended for 13 years. In 1968, it took over most proof coinage production from the Philadelphia Mint, but continued striking a supplemental circulating coinage from 1968 through 1974.
It may be our eyes tricking us into thinking there's an "S" is lurking there, when there really can't be. Our eyes are trained to look out for (or pick out) familiar patterns. Could it be a die chip or some other reasonable explanation?
