Here are pics of a 1972 dime with some type of error on just the reverse. On the reverse from the top of the coin to "pluribus Unum" the field looks like a grainy mozaic. At Pluribus unum it looks like a band of struck in metal and below the field and devices look normal. I listed it as a lamination error but I am not sure.

At first glance it would appear there's some adhesive (or other formerly sticky) residue on the coin. Others will come along and weigh-in. Consider placing the coin in acetone for an hour or two--will remove most, but all adhesives/goo.

Agree, looks like glue or another clear substance.

That year the dime is clad. Not a LAM but something is "on" it.

Thanks folks, I remember reading in one of the publications at how often glue is found to be the culprit and misidentified as an error. I have to get some acetone and after a soaking I will report back. I appreciate your assistance.

Just make sure to read and follow all of the warning and caution information on the label. Acetone is very flammable and can cause an explosion if handled incorrectly.

My next door neighbor was blown out of her kitchen while using a flammable substance to clean paint off of a pair of jeans.

She was okay, but she had really short hair and no eyebrows for a long time.

So many nice people on here with so much wisdom! It only took about 5 minutes in acetone to prove that my "Error" was in fact glue. And fortunately I still have my beard and eyebrows. Now if I could only take pictures that actually looked round like a coin.

When you crop your coin, look to see if there is an option to maintain aspect ratio. That way the image will keep your coin round.
