Hi There,

Yesterday, I posted a penny about an elevated rim which would be considered ridge rim.

http://www.error-ref.com/?s=ridge+ring+

Now, I have this penny in question, I see it has a ridge rim.

But, I see doubling on the date, it looks like the 8 is a double.

I am assuming it can't be a double die (could be wrong) because the doubling is made in the die. I haven't seen it on the books.

I am thinking it is a Machine Doubling some how related to the ridge rim.

Also note how there is a die break underneath on the inside of the D mint mark.

What do you guys think ?

DDD. ( Die Deterioration Doubling) It is an aging die. On the single squeeze dies and the Zincolns, we see this happening at the dies age. Not a doubled die. Just an event we are seeing more and more as they try to keep using the dies too long.
