fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3638 Posts	Posted 04/10/2021 8:18 pm I stumbled across an interesting article in an 1869 newspaper. (Yes, I'm a history nerd. Guilty as charged!) The Vermont Chronicle, published in Windsor, Vermont, had an article in the February 20, 1869 edition, at page 2, complaining of the unfairness of government offices refusing to accept tattered or worn fractional currency at full value. Apparently, the government offices discounted the currency if the notes were damaged, had pieces missing, or were badly worn. Here are photos of the article. Enjoy! Report this Post to the Staff

Wade Pillar of the Community Canada 2781 Posts	Posted 04/10/2021 8:56 pm a good read, but not surprising. not a lot of people trusted the new "promissory notes" and the confederated script ended up not being worth the paper it was printed on. at least the union script was redeemable - even if it was at a discount in some cases. the coin below states the truth of those times, and with the current hyper-inflation that is manifesting itself world wide perhaps also the future.
