No. The mint is producing millions of these that aren't even used, so they will not be a value, even if it's in UNC. This is the case with 1976 $2s; even though there old and in good condition, they have no real premium because they didn't circulate.

Only time will tell, but in my opinion only the proofs have a chance of being valuable any time soon. My best advice is to collect them if you like them and do not be concerned with their potential value.

So, all you need to do is hang on to your BU Presidentials for 110 years and you're set! A complete 2007-2016 set of Proof Sets would be the best thing to collect for this series, without any doubt!

I agree on the proofs. I have not bought an album for the Presidential dollars yet, but I am leaning towards buying a date only album and fill it with proofs. One thing pushing me this way is that I see no point of collecting mint marks if I cannot see them when they are in the album!

I don't know how they could ever be worth much in anything but proof. Way too many being minted. But, nobody knows for sure. Jim

I agree with wd1040. It's the same deal with the Statehood Quarters. If everyone is collecting them, who are they going to sell them to? I like both items because it has introduced lots of people to our hobby.

Well, I have a complete set to date and even if the value sky rockets, I will not sell. Idea behind collecting is to collect, regardless of future value.
So, since they are so cheap, why not build a set and not worry about it :) :) I'm actually putting a MS68 and PF69 certified set together, call me crazy :) I like the prez's.

Well so far, I'm putting together 3 sets: 1 for me, 1 for a special someone and one to haul back to China to sell. I already have a full set of Quarters, so I'm going to see which dealer I can fob off for 200RMB this June. I'm also going to bring back a few stacks of $2s and about 20 rolls of Presidentials But, it's always nice to build your own UNC set at first, but don't think you're going to make much money off of it... unless you haul it to a foreign country!

<*tangent time*>!!
I think what we need the most is a banknote redesign, not bookloads of new coin designs year after year after year. I, for one, like how many new notes are using more modern fonts, like those from Mexico and Switzerland.
I would also like the portrait moved to the right side of the note which allows for the watermark to be placed on the left and the documentation, etc in the middle. I just think this looks more balanced than the ones we have now...
OK... </*tangent time*>!!

I pick up a few mint and proof sets each year, break one set of each to put in the Dansco album. I don't think that we will see them have any great value, but my 2 year old Grandson will enjoy them.

One issue affecting the future price appreciation of BU Presidential dollars is the lack of widespread circulation of same. A large percentage of these BU business strike dollars never enter circulation, or are removed from circulation very early. This means that a much larger percentage of the total mintage survives as BU coins than for any other current business strike issue (yes, including the State Quarters!). ( Unless they end up sending millions of the Presidential dollars to Ecuador like they did with the Sacagawea's..... ) I'd wager that very few of the BU business strike Dollars obtained at face value are used in circulation (ie: 'spent'). The U.S. Mint would love it if more people spent them, because they make 78¢ profit on each Dollar coin. jbuck makes a great point about 'why bother?' collecting by mintmark when you can't see the mintmarks when the coins in the album! There wouldn't be anything wrong with a 'date-only' 2007-2016 Folder, filled with BU coins that you got for $1 each. Complete sets of BU coins are always nice to look at! I filled a couple of 50-coin 'date-only' State Quarter folders. It's neat to see the 50 BU coins together as a set, and they only cost me face value + $3 for the folder. So... a BU date set (compiled for face value) will be a nice 'keepsake' set to look at, just don't expect any major value appreciation for those in this century.

AHHH, yes take them to China. Then they will be making copies and flooding the market with fake ones. Probably will anyway soon enough. As to the future of those dollar coins or any of the dollar coins. I predict they will go over in the future similar to the Bicentennial Quarters. And every one knows how fantastic those went over.

I have a couple Dansco DPS Albums that I'm keeping up. That's because I am one of the minority who like the Presidential dollars. I also have a roll of each Dollar, Washington through Van Buren. I'm starting to think that's a lot of money to tie up, when I could be buying other coins with it. Value? I doubt that most CCF members will live long enough to see a real profit in Presidential dollars. Even many years from now, as indicated by some of the previous posts, they will be too common to show much of a profit.
