I have a silver colored 1948 penny which cannot be picked up by a magnet. So, it is not made of steel. Part of the rim looks like copper. Is it worth anything?

Or painted. If plated it is pretty much done. Painted could be removed.

Painted or plated, my sense is it's not worth much--perhaps 2 to 4 cents.

I'll add one more possibility--it might have been coated in mercury as part of a 1950's-era science experiment.

As noted, either painted or plated but whichever it is,
considered damage and takes any value of the coin away.
