25 mm, Alexander tetradrachm, I'm not sure, whether there's any chance of it being real, though.

The filed off edge is a step into the fake direction for me. What does it weigh?

Almost certainly a fake. The style is wrong, the edge does not look like that of a genuine coin. Probably cast.

@Spence it weighs around 17 g, which sounds about right.

@ancient67 I was afraid of that much, thanks.

Style looks 'off', to my eye.

Edge worked with a fine file to remove circumferential casting join. Filed down to match near correct weight.
Looks suspiciously well centered, especially so with the squared off edge.

The reverse field is not characteristic of a coin that has been struck. Various imperfections in the reverse field are indicative of detritus the has detached from the surface of the mold, from previous moldings, have left relief images on the coin.

Could have been plated over a base metal core.
Finished with hard wax, then buffed.

Well you certainly can't throw it out as if it is real silver you got about $15 right there. And if Sel is correct that "Could have been plated over a base metal core. Finished with hard wax, then buffed." sounds like a great process for a necklace that won't react with the elements and keep on shining bright. Amazing belt buckle etc.

Oh, that unfortunate "M" monogram under the throne. Wonder what it did to earn such treatment from Zeus. Gross!

This coin still a 'keeper', for those who are interested in self education to learn about how to identify fake ancient coins.
I have an extensive collection of fake coins for just this reason.

If you intend to build an educative collection of fake coins make sure they are already identified and sold to you as fakes, or are otherwise bought at a price BELOW their real fake value, because you are just helping those who make and sell fake coins.

Thanks guys, for all the explanations and suggestions! I will certainly keep these in mind. And yes, I bought it just for bullion value - around $15, but still decided to check.
