Just found this Lincoln Cent with what looks like hot grease or filler material that oozed out from the die possibly, stuck to it while it was struck over again. There's some kind of metal that flowed into the lower parts too not just grease & gunk.

My pics don't have all the details that I can see under my 10x loupe and I used a MagnifyGlass app to take these pics so I'll give a brief description of what I see. This error coin or whatever it is has on both sides of the coin this same greasy or oily material & hot metals that settled into place.

Weighs 3.03 grams & is same diameter as a new penny.

Obverse-I see United States Of-stamped backwards, E Pluribus Unum-backwards, Partial letters of One Cent-backwards, two partial Memorial Roof-Line running along Lincoln's shoulders. Some of the grease I can see the details under it & some is too thick & dark.

Reverse-Is possibly a Cud on memorial steps if a Cud can mean a non-metal blob or hardened grease/grime buildup & ejected from the recesses of the die-sorry I'm learning but I don't know many terms yet so bear with me, the U in United States Of A is stamped backwards & starts approx where the I & C in the "America" that's stamped into the copper/zinc?planchet but just south of these letters, it looks like a hot zinc liquid flowed first and the grease settled after, the memorial roof-line is crooked especially on the western most side, holes, missing chunks & larger areas possibly fell out during production, the copper in the very bottom center step is crooked & bulging out and upwards & swelled the once thin line, appears to have had some liquid metal settle into some areas over the One Cent & causing the letters underneath to be distorted.

I'm going to stop there because this is probably not a valuable error coin anyway.

Thank you for your help and I have a huge number of pictures if you want more. Thanks, Beth

@vas, sorry but this looks like a film of dried glue to me that has the impression of another cent in it. That is why the letters are backwards.

We se this quit often on this forum where someone has put glue or some other like substance on a coin
and then pressed another coin onto it. Try soaking it in acetone for 24 hrs and see if it disappears.
In any event, it is not an error

That makes perfect sense to me. Ahh Glue!!!

I spent half of the day looking for answers when I should have just posted it here first. I guess it's a learning experience so no real complaints.

Thank you all for replying & the assistance.

Not even worth an acetone soak - spend it and let someone else find it -

Thank you all for your help and patience.

I spent half the day yesterday reading sites that explained how coins and error coins are made so it wasn't a complete waste of my time. The site just didn't tell me about the possibilities for glue being used. Lol! I feel like a dope for not seeing it myself but I'm not dissuaded from posting here in the future.
