@vv, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you please provide some idea of the dimensions and weight? Also, once you have gently removed the dirt, please post a pic of the other side to this thread too. Thx.

I'm going to guess it is a fragment of a medal from WWI France or Great Britain for starters. A cross of some kind with crossed swords. Something like this.

Yeah I have seen those online, I cant make out the 2 men on the right hand side and if they are holding spears or something? It also says 17 on the bezel, would love to know this exact medal!

Where was it found? That might help narrow down the possibilities.

Oooo... a nice mystery piece. I noticed 1 (maybe 2) chevrons on the officers sleeve although they are pointing the wrong direction. Artistic licence or true depiction? Maybe showing a pic of the cleaned specimen to a war historian specializing in uniforms might help. Agree that it doesn't look like a rifle. Was thinking a rolled up stretcher?

I've looked all over the web for this. It looks like the soldier has an Ally steel helmet and the person next to him has on a French officers hat to me it looks like a cross with swords but many countries used this type of medal. and I have a nice collection of WWI medals but none like this one. Stumped
