That's what I get for not checking there first....)(*^%&*%%$....time to order a few of those.

The mints production figures don't go back very far. Anyone have link to archived mintages?

I wonder how long these halves will last at the mint? I ordered 3 sets of P, D rolls for the future, only $103.80 shipped. I keep getting the feeling this will have been the bargain of a lifetime.

yeah I know they will last until 22 because the new kennedys go on sale that day.. Now I am hoping its a deal of a life time but you never know... The 2006d I think is next to lowest and it doesn't really sell for a premium... Mintage of 2,000,000

Yeah, you know what could happen- they could make 2009 the real key by minting less than 500,000 apiece. They keep going down in mintage from year to year it seems.

Anyway, I order my 2008 P&D rolls from the US mint. They are selling for $1.50 and higher per coin on ebay already, so if they don't increase in price in a few years, or we find out that 2009 or 2010 are even lower mintages, I can just bust open the rolls, take out a few for myself and sell the rest coin by coin. No matter what, 85 cents a coin is a good deal I think.

I also saw just one 2008 P&D bag of JFK halves on ebay currently and (s)he wants 279.95 + 14.60 shipping for 200 coins or $1.47 ea, so not really a good deal there, though I suspect he will sell it once the P&D rolls sell out. The US Mint sold this bag for 130.95 (.66 ea!) plus shipping.

Hopefully, the nicer grade coins are in the rolls. Bags can often be loaded with lower MS grades due to bag marks.

You folks realize that you cannot buy these coins until
the end of the year if you want mintage low.

To boost your buying of mint sets, bags, and rolls during
the year, will keep up mintage... Assuming that the word
is out among collectors, that will all have the same thing
in mind. And the word is out...

Are you saying they will produce 2008 halves in 2009? The 2008 bags are already sold out, I suspect the rolls won't be far behind.

I ordered a few rolls from the mint as well. Hope they dont find a huge stash in the vault later on. I think they did that with the nickle series a few years ago.

No.
I was commenting on the posts forecasting an even lower
mintage for halves in 2009. If all of us buy into that
idea, and start buying up 2009 halves during 2009, then
it will drive up production. If we wait until this time
next year, then hoard up the last, then the mintage just
might drop. That's what I was getting at.

Either that or it might be sold out this time next year is that risk you have to take

That's a good point. I do not know what will happen in 2009 with halves, but it is clear that they have been running low mintages since 2002 and I do not anticipate they will suddenly decide they need to mint 20 million in 2009. But I agree, if everyone buys large amounts of 2009 halves early in the year, the Mint will just make more and this might lead to a higher mintage year than others.

I'm also wondering if they will do something to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assasination in 2013.

Ditto, just placed my order. Besides, I like the looks of the Kennedy half.
