2008 P & D mintages (Source: US mint web site, Jan-Nov 2008, so may change slightly after December #s are in) [2007 mintages are at the bottom of this post]

REVISED 1/15/09 (numbers changed are in blue)

Cent P: 2.6 billion, D: 2.8 billion
Nickel P: 288 million, D: 353 million
Dime P: 413 million, D: 637.5 million
Quarter P: 1.3 billion, D: 1.3 billion (all states)
Half*** P: 1.7 million, D: 1.7 million
Sac Dol P: 9.8 million, D: 14.8 million (up dramatically from 1.8 million or so through November)
Pres Dol P: 235 million, D: 230 million (all presidents)

*** Lowest mintage of entire series so far; could become key dates.

The interesting thing to note, if you compare with 2007 (see below) is that all the mintages are down sharply, except the Statehood Quarters are only down slightly. If you look back to mintage figures to the Great Depression era, you will note that, for example, cents, nickels and dimes were low in mintage in 1931, & no quarters at all in 1931.

I also read (see link below) that mintages on 2008 US Mint sets will be only 626,214, also making it the lowest in more than 45 years. Could become a key date. Also keep in mind that these mint sets contain the P&D JFK halves that are low mintages themselves. The article does suggest, however, that the US Mint could make more than the preliminary figure if demand is there.

http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/20...er-hits.html

Currently, all SAC dollar 2008 bags and rolls are sold out. JFK 2008 bags are sold out but the P&D rolls are still available for a very low price of about 85 cents a coin. I just ordered some JFK 2008 rolls.

2007 P & D Mintage figures (source: US Mint web site)

Cent P: 3.8 billion, D: 3.6 billion
Nickel P: 572 million, D: 626 million
Dime P: 1.0 billion, D: 1.0 billion
Quarter P: 1.3 billion, D: 1.5 billion (all states)
Half P: 2.4 million, D: 2.4 million
Sac Dol P: 3.6 million, D: 3.9 million
Pres Dol P: 475 million, D: 468 million (all presidents)

Wow, I need to get me some '08 half dollar rolls. Thats definitely some low mintage on those since I think the second lowest mintage year in the entire series was '03 with 2.5 million from each mint.

I also ordered some JFK rolls for 2008. When are the mint numbers finalized?

How does one order 2008 rolls of half dollars? Does the mint sell them?

In a different thread we discussed asking for rolls of half dollars at the bank. So far I've had no luck with just walking in and asking for them. I've gotten a few strays, but no complete rolls.

Go to usmint.gov and search the left side for bags and rolls then select Kennedy halves. They are about to stop selling the 2008 Kennedy's so hurry up and get some if you want them.

Funny how the dimes took a nose-dive...

Also funny how the gov realizes that State Quarters
are a cash cow, therefore they couldn't cut those
mintages.

With them bawling about the expense of nickels, I
figured they'd be far lower.

I'm still pretty new at this, so I continue to ask rookie questions. Would these coins be considered "uncirculated" since they've never been in circulation? Also, if I buy the bag of 200 rather than the rolls, are the coins loose in the bag or in rolls? And, if they're loose in the bag, do they not get scratched?

Thanks in advance for your patience!

The mint says that the Product (bag) is not available. Keep asking those are good questions.

Good tip on the halves. Money is short, and I shouldn't be
buying coins, but I bought a few rolls just now. That IS a
nice low mintage.

It took me a second, but I realized that buying them wouldn't
push up mintage... It's 09, so they ain't making no more 08s!

Yes the would be considered uncirculated and correct me if I am wrong they would also be considered Mint State

They are loose in the bag

2008:-Low-Mintages-At-The-US-Mint

Thanks, I just ran to ebay and bought two 2008 P and D sets....my wallet hurts! That mintage is lower than the 1909S Lincoln and look what that's worth today. I'm stashing these away for my kids by the roll!
