This is the brightest coin I have ever come across.

Is it actually yellow gold like these pics, or is it closer to red?

As the photos stand, I'm thinking plated. The fields--when contrasted with devices--just don't look right. Maybe an 'older' plating with some modest degree of circulation afterward.

It looks like a yellow gold colour. The image is very close to the real thing. Question: Does plated mean not worth anything?

Yes. A plated coin to a collector is an altered coin. Just spendable change now.

Several of the Canadian cents of 2000 on in BU condition are the brightest coins, in my opinion. I agree, your cent looks to be plated. Plating looks nice, but destroys numismatic value.

I had a couple of nickel coated pennies that my grandson fell in love with. Guess who has them now?
