I agree. At one time it wrapped around the edge.

A fun find. I agree looks like struck through—copper foil I thinking.

Looks more like a folded-over lamination to me. I suspect that metal is part of the planchet and would have started on the rim, then post-fold wear pressed it down enough for the G to show through. Coop, what are your thoughts?

So you're saying it is not a strike through but a lamination tear that made it's way down, stayed attached and managed to fold over onto the G? Hmmmmm?

I do like the appearance of a cracked skull. Wonder what the reverse looks like? Cents from this era often have fun issues on both sides of the coin.

I thought Lam as well. Interested to see more insight on this one. Neat find either way!

No connecting areas like you would like to see on a lamination. Kind of like a cup losses out along the side of the road, than seeing trash in a dump issue. No other evidence for the reason for it to be a lamination. Just a struck through debris that at on time wrapped around the rim. The weight would be slightly heavier, than being lighter like a lamination would be.

Ah, that makes sense. I now see that the contact doesn't extend into the coin. Thanks!

Hmmmm. It weighs 3.03 grams (I recalibrated to make sure). In my first photo it looks like you could unroll it and it would fit back up to the edge and over the rim. That would make it lamination, correct?

I'm confused. Looks like lamination to me now. So much for figuring it out. I'll keep looking. Thanks all very much.

I've changed my mind again. Looks like it's continuous (or at least collinear) with this lam on Abe's forehead:
