flat shelf like doubling. non split serif. Looks like machine or slide doubling.

with John1 looks like an acid soaked coin with damage.

I'd go with heat possibly from a blow torch - see the way the coins metal seems to have been melting and rippling in one direction?

Torched. Depending on how long it is held on the coin, the more the metal begins to move:

the weight will be normal. It is was dipped into acid, that would lighten the coin.
