I have a maverick token in my collection that I have been looking to identify for several years. Here are its specifications:
- Diameter: 28.83mm
- Thickness: 2.13mm
- Weight: 7.23g
- Composition: Copper or Brass?
- Edge: Plain
- Alignment orientation: Medal type
- Obverse/Reverse inscription: «Kannyhatti Garden»

Kannyhatti-Garden-Token

Recently, I stumbled upon a short presentation by Jerry F. Schimmel that mentioned some tea plantation tokens used in British India in the late 19th century, one of which seems to match my token (Kannyhatti Garden from Sylhet district). However, it remains a hypothesis.

That's why I'm asking for your help to know if anyone has any information about this token, or even its level of rarity or value?

Moreover, in the presentation in question, Jerry F. Schimmel gives as a source the book by Fred Pridmore published in 1980 and entitled «The Coins of the British Commonwealth of Nations - Part 4 India - Volume 2». I do not own this book. So, if anyone on the forum has it, would it be possible to check if my coin is listed in it?

Thank you

@ains, that is a tough one. I'm not seeing anything at tokencatalog or zeno. The only match is your post on numicanada from earlier this year. I am seeing at least one other British tea garden token that mentions "Kannyhatti". Hopefully someone else here can provide more help.

You may want to contact tokencatalog and ask them for help.

Thank you both.

Indeed, this is not an easy case. I have asked for help from several, but no one to date had any knowledge of this token. However, I do know that there are at least 2 other Kannyhatti Garden issues, namely:

Variety Pridmore #54 from 1906:
Kannyhatti-Garden-Token

And the variety Pridmore #55A from 1920:
Kannyhatti-Garden-Token

Both of these varieties are rare and highly sought after. So, given the style of my token and its dimensions, I would tend to think that my coin predates these two issues.

That said, I would love to be able to confirm or not if my token is present in the Fred Pridmore book I mentioned in my first comment. I may have several hundred numismatic books in my library, but Asian tokens are not my specialty.

Moreover, I am aware of 2 other publications that could possibly enlighten me. However, as for Fred Pridmore's book, I do not own these:

I also know that there are several Indians who collect this type of token. However, the language barrier is an important obstacle...
I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect... I'm learning a little more every day.
