I ordered five regular proof sets. Two had quality issues, so I returned them on March 26th and on April 6th received a $64 credit on my card. Yesterday, one regular proof set showed up that I had not ordered. Perhaps it's because I'm such a wonderful customer or perhaps the mint is turning in to the Littleton Coin Company. When I look in my order history, there's nothing there reflecting why. I was planning on ordering two replacements, but don't have a clue how to actually pay for this one.

Sounds like the mint is messing up from raking in so much money .

If you still want a total of five, I'd wait until mid-week to see if another shows up. The following week I'd order one more. Once the final set arrives check the bill statement enclosed, if it only shows the one purchase I'd consider the transaction complete. Some say that would be wrong, but here is why it is not. Look at the cost difference between the regular and silver sets. $32 vs. $105. The process to manufacture both is nearly identical, same equipment same personnel. Containing just under and ounce of silver, currently at $26.00, and adding a premium of 30% that's only $71.00. About where that set should have been priced. So they lost nothing.

It's my understanding if you receive something in the mail that you did not order, you are under no obligation to return it. Besides, chances are if you try to make good it will backfire -- some clerk will overcharge you and you will never get square. I would monitor your credit card statements closely, remember this is the government you are dealing with.

I had a different and positive experience in a similar situation. Believe I took the ethical high road and returned the 'free' items. Here is my letter from 2010. I got my postage refunded, and my concinlse was clean as an honest member of the collecting community. To each their own I say. PBGS 2799 Reeves Rd Plainfield, IN 46168 Ref: Order #37307221 - Return of Coins I Did Not Order Dear PBGS, I received the referenced order yesterday and upon opening the package realized that you had sent along two additional US Mint products that I did not order or pay for. Specifically, my package contained: • 1 ea 2010 Proof Presidential dollar set • 1 ea Abraham Lincoln 1st Day of Issue set I spoke with a US Mint representative at 1-800-USA-MINT and was advised to return these coins to your address. The coins are enclosed with this correspondence. I was further advised that I can submit a claim for my return postage to the same address in a separate correspondence. Please be looking for that letter.
