I have a double eagle quarter it has been looked at by two dealers who have stated it is an authentic coin. it has been weighed and weighs out right. the only other coin found like this was a double headed quarter. I have included a picture. <<<Edited to remove For Sale info.>>>

Hi code9ster Better go back and have the coin looked at again , its impossible to mount two of the same side dies in the presses , the obverse and the reverse have different size arbors . this is a Magicians coin there is little doubt about it .

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but virtually all double sided coins are known as magician coins and are actually two coins machined to fit together.

He's posting this around on other forums asking 50K for it. It's been removed from most of those forums already.

The coin has been checked one eagle has the copper on the tail the other has the nickel only on the tail how would they machine the coin with the exact weight and ores used in the coin if someone can give answers on what to look for in a Magicians coin I will be glad to take your advice but as it stands it is deemed as an authentic us coin

1. It is impossible for both the same dies to be mounted on top and on the bottom. Can't fit a square peg in a round hole 2. The coins have been around for decades. Any machinist can hollow out a coin to fit another inside. If done right then the weight isn't really an issue. 3. If you look at it under magnification you'll see the small line made where the two fit together. It won't be on the rim but rather just along the front edge near the rim. 4. There has never been a single recorded case of a double coin in US history...yet . If it were possible then mint workers would switch dies all the time to stir the pot

This coin would have to be slabbed by a major TPG service to be of any value. However, Fred Weinberg posts regularly on the Collectors Universe forum and I'm sure he would would be happy to autheticate it for you. Fred has sold millions of dollars in error coins and would the only person other than PCGS/NGC that I would trust.

Thanks bherring1964 I will get ahold of him and see what he thinks. I have looked at the coin and studied it for all the markings of the Magicians coin and there are none as to all the guides I have seen. and to answer the poster that said it doesn't happen there has been dimes quarters and even paper money printed with double sides when it comes into the bank the bank sends it back to the treasury department. but it has happened many times
