I originally thought nothing of this nice coin, but the microscope brought out some details on the reverse, that I thought might be worth posting for your collective appraisal.

The light from the microscope, shining on the top of the Lincoln Memorial revealed what appears to be a slightly angled top of the memorial. Maybe I am seeing things? Was there a "close" vs."far" AM that year?

I am attaching images of both sides as well as the part that might be of interest.

Thank you for your time.

Justin

No Close - Far that year - FG seems very thin and faint, probably just over polished die.

Your coin is normal. All cents were Wide AM (including proofs until 1992. In 1993 all the cents were Close AM. Including proof coins. Starting in 1994 the 1994-S mints were Wide AM again. Then the 1998-2000 episodes of the wrong reverses during that time period. Business strikes normal Close AM's, there were year varieties of Wide AM from 1998-2000 on the business strike cents. On the proof cents that should have been Wide AM since 1994, there were 1998-S and 1999-S Close AM's. Hard to keep up with but I have an image with all the information you need.

So all the info in on this image. Just save that for your personal references. I'll post more images with the views if what to look for:

This is how you can tell the differences. Forget the distance between the 'A&M'. Look at the locations of the 'M' on the AME. If the 'M' is centered, it is a Wide AM. If the 'M' is off center, then it is a close 'AM'. Remember to look only at the 'M' for which is which. There are only two choices. Wide and Close AM. The distance between the 'AM' means nothing as die polishing can make the AM look closer or farther away. Just look at the 'M' location. It will be either centered, or off to the left. The only two choices.

Proof that should have been wide AM, had some with close AM. These are year varieties.
Business strike with the wide AM, that should have been close AMs'.
Hope this helps, but if not, ask more questions.

CoopHome: What is going on with the Wide AM and Close AMs on the 1992, 1998-2000 cents?

That is what all of us do here. We appreciated it when we were learning, and passing it on now to our coin brothers and sisters is just the right thing to do.
