Well it's strange for sure - if it was a hit there and a hit here wouldn't that have moved the metal to push the letters on the obverse? Just a talking point - maybe just some coincidental contact damage?

Maybe it was used as a screwdriver, I just dont see any gouging from a screw , but aftershock years of circulation that probably worn off. Into the junk copper box. Thanks all.
