My knowledge of world coins is very small/nonexistent compared to that of ancient Roman coins so my question is this:

Would it be possible to assemble a set of coins from each Russian Tsar from Ivan the Terrible to Nicholas II (say one coin from each reign) and then a set of Soviet coins from Lenin to Gorbachev (again, one from each)? Would it be extremely expensive, would the coins be impossible to find, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Hello, I am glad you are interested in Russian coins. The collection you are talking about is possible to obtain. But I do not know how much it would cost as it greatly depends on the coin condition and grade.

It depends if you want the ruler actually named on the coin, or are content to simply have one made in the same years as his reign. Many Russian Empire copper coins don't picture or name the ruler. There are also a couple of rulers who only "reigned" very briefly, and issued basically no coinage (Tsar Constantine I comes to mind) and of course the Soviet-era rulers won't be named on the coins.

Probably named, although if that is too expensive/too difficult to obtain, then the years would be fine.

This I knew , I was thinking more of a date set for when they came to (and left) power like 1917 and 1924 for Lenin.

Also, does anyone know of a database or website similar to Wildwinds for these Russian coins?

As far as a Russian-specific database, no. The combination of WorldCoinGallery and CoinArchives should find most kinds of Russian coins.

Sap, Constantine I was only the Grand Duke and tsesarevich of Russia - so in my opinion you shouldn't use "Tsar". And I think that you should think eg. about W³adys³aw IV Vasa or False Dmitri I and their rare coins

The toughest might be 1741 Ivan III and 1762 Peter III instead of 1825 Konstantine I as he didn't really rule the country. Here might be an excellent price guideline: http://www.rustypennies.com/catalog...l_coins.html Others shouldn't be a challenge at all if you don't mind low grade coins.
