I just wanted to take a moment to say Thanks to all of the members of Coin Community for their help and guidance. I've been posting right here in the Error/Variety forum for TEN YEARS now after lurking as a guest for a while.

I've heard it said that "All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten" well thanks to the CCF for being my "Coindergarten" and teaching me so much about numismatics. It's much more than just a coin forum. I think of it as home.

I only hope that other members have enjoyed my post and found some of my replies useful.

I did have to laugh when went back and found that my first post was never answered. I still have the coin in my collection, gaining more and more of a blue/purple tone in it's 2X2.

Here's an image...

I think I know why you never got a response from that coin . What in the heck caused that missing letters on reverse . Is it a planchet flaw , bad die , I honestly don't think it's a Greaser . Rest of coin is a beauty even with that small issue on bottom tip of left stalk . Very nice NT .

And thank you.

You are one of the members whose posts help me learn stuff that I did not know, or even inquire about.

Looks more like a gunk item with grease fiber and grit in it. Shape like disolved fiber (cardboard) with grit (sand and metal shavings) grease (Keeping the gunk into a glob) but firm enough to fill the devices and create a blockage on the field. Like stuff that is klingon on moving machinery. You get an 'A' for the day.

Here I was wondering when I will hit 10 years. Looked it up and I guess it passed me by silently. (Registered 08/03/2007)

Congrats on the ten year milestone. You've provided a lot of insight and great error examples since I've been here.

I'm with Coop on it being a glob of grease. The surface of the depression seems too stippled to be a struck through and the base of the E (STATES) is visible.

Thanks for the kind replies! I always try to give an accurate opinion of what I think has happen on a coin, and give an explanation as to why I feel that way. If I have an example of the same type of error, variety or damage I will add an image, but I've questioned myself on that recently as I don't want to seem like I'm trying to hijack a post.

I'm working on a contest for this milestone, but I still have no idea of what it will be or when I might post it. Please bear with me.

As for the coin, I too am almost positive it's Struck Through Grease. The grease that was on the die seems to have been filled of metal shavings and that's what left the interesting fiber-like pattern in the "thumbprint" shaped anomaly. @T-BOP The small area at the base of the left wheat stalk seems to be another struck through area, with a small line that might be a small metal filing that was struck through as well. None of the areas have a wave on the outside edge, so none would seem to be contact damage.
