You believe that video? What a load of crap! They sound the same to me. First of all vending machines don't "ring" coins, they weigh them and scan them electromagnetically, each different coin has a unique electromagnetic signature based on it's composition. The fake toonie in the video is a "montreal mint" toonie, different than the most recent fakes. You can't ring a coin on a wooden surface, serious "ringers" use a metal surface such as an anvil, that is what was used to determine silver fakes. At one time the Mint rang silver coins on an anvil as part of quality control.

I have no idea how vending machines work and it's super easy to hear the difference in sound, again if you have a fake like my 1996 fake with the sit bear paw you would know the sound of a toonie vs the sound of a fake toonie. I have a fake and this one 2012 sounds like the fake I have. I'm not debating the sound my toonie makes here I'm positive it dosnt sound like any other toonie iv seen except the fake one. If the metal content is different and it's not a fake then it's a nice error coin. But I won't know untill I do more research and get a scale
I'll also need to get another toonie that's 2012 security because I don't have another atm. But iv drop tested mine on like 50 different surfaces from metal to terazel and it sounds like nothing to me sounds the same as my fake
I have 1996 toonie struck on all nickel planchet, seen toonies on a loonie planchet, seen other toonies on many foregn planchets and yes these are worth a fair amount as errors. You can use any security type toonie after 2012, they are all made of same composition and weight
They would be closed today for the holiday, I have a scale at home but it's packed away and low quality ill but a new one in a day or two. I could probably find a scale at my work if I tried, I work in a hospital, but the lab techs might be confused if I go into the labs to weigh a coin lol
I'm a fidgety person and any time I have a toonie I'm walking and flicking it in the air and I love the ping sound they make, this one annoys me because it's sound like flicking like thick plastic
Is there any way to test metal content of a toonie? Like I know silver you can test by putting it on ice, I actually found my first silver dime yesterday. I can't remember the year it's at home atm I think it's 1967 dime
The darker colour toonie is one I just got same year. I tested the sound and ya not even close to the same. Is there any way for me to upload a video to show the sound difference?
The sound difference seems pretty obvious In the video but if no one can notice a difference let me know and I'll do the drop/sound test on some other surfaces.
