I found this 2012 toonies while sifting through my change jar to look for more fake toonies with the split in the bears paw, I flick each one to make sure it has that toonies ting sound. But this 2012 toonies was the only one that didn't have the ping. Does anyone know if all the fakes have the weird paw?

By wired paw I mean split, like in my older post. Is it possible this toonies was stamped on the wrong metal? It's either a good fake or something weird

I unfortunately don't have a scale on hand, the only thing I can say for 100% certainty is that it's not the right metal for a toonie, every too is has a very specific sound when dropped or flicked and this coin sound like a thud when dropped without any ping noise

If I had to guess by hand though I'd say it is lighter then a normal toonie. Also the pictures on the coin seem very lightly struck but that could be wear

I can't find anything about fake 2012 toonies or any errors that would make the coin have a different metal content. I'm really stumped with this coin

It does not look like any toonie on a wrong planchet, just a severely worn unit, it should weigh 6.9 grams as a security coin, An XRF would be the true way to find out the metal content, go to a drug store postal outlet their scales are really accurate that is the easiest option.

I'll have to grab a scale some time. Have you encountered any fake toonies yet? I have a 1996 toonie where the foot has a slit in it and it's one of the fakes, this new one sounds the same as it. But no slit, it's definitely either a fake or an error not a normal toonie

Toonies are made of two pieces, if the joint is not perfect the core will dampen the vibration and the coin will thud rather than ping.

One of my 1996 toonies is a fake, I posted the pictures on another one of my posted, you can easily make out the slit in the foot. I'll pick up a scale in the next few days to weigh this one. If it is an error what should I be looking for? And if it's a fake how can I tell the difference, iv read nothing about fakes made in the year 2012, and even if the core made the coin sound different I imagine when being flicked it would still make some sort of sort of sound, this toonie sound like flicking a piece of lead

I personally haven't seen any confirmed fakes with the security marks. I'd be interested in the weight for this coin.

As soon as I get a scale I'll post the weight of the coin I think it's a little light but we will find out. Does anyone here currently have a toonie that dosnt ping? I go through alot of toonies in a week and have never had one except for the fake that I have and this one. But as I said shows no sign of being a fake so idk.
