Also if you don't know the sound I'm talking about there is a video on YouTube where a guy shows and compares the sound of a real toonie and one of the new fake toonies. The fake toonie sounds like thud. Real one makes a ping sound. This toonie in the picture has no ping, also iv not seen any article about toonies being able to loose there sound.
Do you know that a 1996 toonie and a 2012 security toonie are composed of completely different metals? Yet according to you they ping the same. Your own statements kinda deny your different composition different ping theory. I think you place too much value on the crap you watch on you tube.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website
The ping might be a slight bit different but if you get a toonie from every different year the angelic ish ping is the same I currently am holding a 1996 and a 2007 and a 2014 and they sound a bit different but it's still a ping sound. The one I'm talking about here has no ping at all
Also the video I am talking about the guy is comparing the sound of a toonie to the sound a a fake toonie the ones with the slit in the bears paw( check my 1996) toonie post. Also I'm not relying on YouTube I'm looking at every different site including here for information on the sound a toonie makes. If your Canadian you would know that they all ping
There is no counterfeit toonies with the security feature, the security feature is there to prevent this and works as intended. Counterfeiters wont touch them for this very reason and that is why you will not find a fake toonie from 2012 to present when they started adding this feature.
The cost of trying to duplicate this feature would make counterfeiting them worthless and cost more to try and duplicate than what they would make resulting in a counterfeiter losing money, which is clearly not the goal in this situation.
Your toonie is simply warn and heavily circulated, as are most of the 2012 two dollar coins being found in circulation and as DBM pointed out, the core is made from a different composition then the ring and when they are not seated correctly you would be surprised by the difference in sound compared to the same year/denomination in better condition.
I have had thousands of dollars in 2012 two dollar coins go through my hands and thoroughly checked under a scope and none of them have made me think even the slightest bit about being fake.
The obverse and reverse of your coin are 100% correct, I have had the chance to find and study numerous fakes and this is not one.

The only reason I came across that video was doing research on the fake 1996 toonie I have and posted about. It does not sound like a real toonie nor does this one. But iv found no info on fake 2012 toonies
If you have a fake toonie do the drop test. There is no sound almost sounds like plastic or as I said like lead, this toonie actually looks rather new to me shiny my pictures are just bad and alot of sunlight. But do a drop test with any toonie and tell me if you find one that makes no metal sound when it hits the ground
Also I'm comparing sound only, I'm new to coins. And this coin makes the exact same sound as the fake 1996 toonie I have. The current fakes are in like 4-5 different years that I know of but all the fakes sound the same and this one (sounds like) a fake. So if you have a real toonie that makes the sound of a fake toonie that would confirm it's just a normal coin. Iv been testing all my toonies I get over the last few days and none of them sound like the fake toonies do
No need for a drop test, I can perform one if need be but just look at the obverse legend "ELIZABETH II" and "D.G. REGINA" on your 2012 and compare it to the fake you have.
The "II" part of "ELIZABETH II" on the obverse of a fake will be closer to the outside rim and not correctly centered.
The "II" part of "ELIZABETH II" on the obverse of a genuine toonie will always be correctly centered.
The biggest issue with the fakes besides the toe, is they can never seem to get the legends correctly positioned making the fake coins legends crooked.
100% Your coin is a genuine RCM minted two dollar coin, regardless of how it sounds when dropped.

watch the video and tell me you can find a toonie that sounds like the fake one. This is an older video but shows a real toonie and a fake and the fake when dropped sounds like no toonie ov ever come across. As I said if you have a real toonie that sounds like the fake in the video let me know because that's what this toonie sounds like. Also if it's not a fake then possible error maybe, I just need to find a real toonie with the same sound as this 2012 one. But iv yet to find one that sounds like the fake in the video and like the 2012 I'm talking about here
a few months ago received a cool note and was sure it was heavier than a normal note, so after first lockdown went to a large dealer had them weigh the notes on a very accurate jewel scale, they all weighed 1 gram. Even if this coin is a fake or error it"s worth 2 bucks
So if the weight is off and it's struck on the wrong planchet or w.e or different metal content then it should have you claim that error would be worthless? I don't think iv ever seen an error coin that wasn't worth a little bit more at least for any error
