I'm legitimately terrible at grading. Would love to hear what people think this might grade. I cherrypicked it, but got bid up to a price that I kind of regret in retrospect, since I'm not sure the grade is as high as I thought at first (paid $230).

That seems like a pretty high price for a raw coin to me.

@coinfrog I agree. Definitely a little buyer's remorse. If it's in the MS range, it would be worth it even after grading, but I'm not so confident in my grading ability and fear it would only come back high AU, in which case I'd lose out about $80 after grading.

I lean ever so slightly toward AU-58, but agree with KYCC that the slash between the rays would hold this to 63 at best, which makes it not slab-worthy. If it were mine, I return it if I could.

@coinfrog well if it could get a 62, it would be very slab worthy, since the price jumps significantly in MS state. The most recently realized prices for an MS63 (closest sold coins I can find) are $720 and $960. I fear you may be right though about AU58, that is kind of my own guess as well. I think there may be light wear on the breast feathers of the eagle.

Judging off the obverse I'd say AU58, reverse looks like it stands a chance of MS62/63.
Curious how it looks in hand.

The coin has strong luster and from your photos looks like an easy MS63, but what I can not tell from your photos does the upper leg have broken luster from circulation rub? If the answer is yes, it will grade AU58. There is also a dark area on the lower part of the leg that could be rub or wear.

Lots of interesting opinions. But for me, whatever the outcome, not a raw coin I'd want to own at $230.

@Ty2020b Honestly, does not look as good in hand in my personal opinion, but not drastically so. I would upload more pictures, but I don't have the coin with me right now. Will do so in a few days when I'm back home.
@slider23 Are you asking about the leg of Liberty or the eagle? I don't believe it is, since the only place I remember seeing possible wear was on the Eagle's breast feathers, but I will again have to update when I have the coin in hand in a few days.
@coinfrog Oof, don't remind me lol. I got caught up in the excitement of the cherrypick after getting sniped on a few other auctions, and I put in a final bid that was higher than I really wanted to go hoping no one else would bid very high and I'd get it under 200.

This one is a tough call without holding it in hand. I'd also like to see some closeups of the DDR. I can see the concern because at AU-50 it is about $150 and a slabbed PCGS MS-62 is about $650 if this is indeed the FS-801 DDR.

I was asking about the leg of liberty, but the same thing applies to the eagles breast.
