I found one too. Mines slightly bowed outwards and rocks back and forth on a flat surface. Almost tossed it in the reject pile....

Eclark3, your coin appears to be damaged and bent. Not the die deformation error.

PMD, damaged coin.

Tanman2001 If have to disagree. Obverse side Washington's eye is gouged deep down and piled up on ear... That's mint damage or you'd see copper, some plating wouldn't be present. Damaged from the inside out? It's raised on both sides of coin but in different areas. Sorry the pics don't do it justice. I've been collecting for quite a few years. I would have said PMD also until I looked up some varieties. Mine has crispy features like the window panes but the die deformation is present over 90% of obverse and reverse. Die crack across Washington maybe? While it's obviously circulated the die deformation is also very obviously present. It's hard to get a clear pic of something so distorted.

@ecl, best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin so I have split your coin from the rest of that previous thread.
I will say that when we see coins that have this bulged surface (i.e. damaged from the inside out), we attribute it to damage from high heat or fire.

That die did strike some ugly coins: So it was not all the coin that makes it look ugly. The dies were at issue as well.

Agree, just damage. Memorial Day should not be preceded by "Happy".

Coop, Are you saying the OP's coin is an error or a variety, or is it a campfire coin? John1

A worn die is not an error or variety. It is a die event. Just because you go on vacation, doesn't mean your retired. It is just an event in life. When your retired, you don't have week ends, because the work week isn't ending for you. You don't have days off, as you don't have days on anymore. A die variety is a created on the die and seen from the first strike onward. It is not an error as it was created normal, it is just a die event, that is before retirement.
