I was paid in $20s and one $100 bill from 1988. I ran my counterfeit pen over it and it passed. Grocery story took it from me and said it was fake. However they knew us and gave it back to us so as not to call the cops. I still dont know if its real or fake. Can anyone comment either way?

It appears to be genuine but to say for sure I'd have to hold/feel the note.

They used a bill detector. I bet it was looking for the strip found on the new bills. Later in the day at work, I spoke to our work cafeteria manager and she said they can only use a pen on the older bills, she thought those 1990 and older but wasnt sure. It passes the pen check thou.

I am not seeing any colored fibers in the note. Did they not do that then? John1

It looks real to me. It has gone through the bank because it has a partial teller stamp on back. Still, I am not 100% sure. . . . . . to CCF

I faintly see a few colored fibers on both the front and back.

I don't know, I see 1 fiber but the paper looks off. I would need to feel it to be 100% certain.

Likely good if I passed the pen check. Agree with others that the easiest thing to do is bring it to your bank.

Your $100 bill is fake. I agree with your grocery store clerk. There is no need to take it to the bank. Your note is real, but it's not a $100. It's a $1 bill from the Chicago district. What you have is a raised note and highly illegal. In some states you can get up to 2 years in prison if caught trying to pass one. That is probably why you received it in a private transaction.
