Do you think there is a false trust in ebay or other sites that contributes significantly to people buying into fake? In other words, how much worse is the problem because of people thinking, "well it's on ebay so it must be legitimate because they're legitimate."

I have no idea why people would jump in and pay nearly $300 for a worthless coin. A little research and effort would tell people that a legitimate coin in that grade would be considerably more.

Pretty simple - they don't know it's worthless.

With an "eagle" like that who needs vampire marks? Many of these counterfeits look like freelance folk art.

The left foot looks like it's wire wound, and the tailfeathers look like a cheap herringbone jacket. Make that a corn cob. It's hard to tell what the artiste had in mind.

The feathers on the right wing look like corn kibbles. It must have been done at dinnertime. A corny effort.
