I have held on to this coin for so long lol curious as to what you think could have caused these pot holes?

This is a zinc core copper plated Cent. This is what is called "zinc rot". All of the pits and deterioration of this coin are very common on Lincoln Cents struck after 1982 (some in 1982) which was the transitional year in which the Mint went from making copper Cents to zinc cored copper plated Cents.
