A true coin collector. Keep it up! There are still many pre 1960 Jefferson nickels floating around. Take a closer look at your mintmark for a 1946 D over inverted D.

Not a bad buy for 5 cents but it is not silver, it is a copper, nickle alloy. The last wartime silver 5 cent coin was in 1945.

I missed the comment about 35% silver. Silver content nickels have a Large Mint Mark over the dome of Montevello building.

Not silver. Like TNG said look for the one with the mintmark above Monticello.
