Coop, I regularly will take your word on anything having to do with coins b/c research typically shows you know your stuff much better than I do.
I have done a LOT of research into No FG Kennedy halves (see the paper I wrote linked in my signature), as well as handling many of them from various dates. I also with you that almost all of the dates claimed as No FG are die events.
Besides finding traces of the polished off FG, you can normally find obvious details polished away on the surrounding feathers/etc. details where the FG was polished off. It is especially easy to find remnants of the FG where the tops edges of the F and the G intersect with the eagle's leg: two bumps from the letters' topmost right parts can be seen on the bottom of the leg.
But this is not the case with the no-serif & no FG 1982 halves. Yes, there are polished off 1982 examples, but specimens of the 1982 w/ the OBV no-serif 1 has no initial remnants or polishing characteristics of the details in that area. As far as I can see, the no-serif & no FG 1982s are a legit die variety.
I would very much appreciate data showing otherwise. I would also like to understand how just the FG could be missing from being polished without any residual polishing effects of the immediate surrounding elements. Not even the tiny, always left behind micro bumps I mentioned above are visible on the no-serif variety.

How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash?
