Pixked up this a few days ago since the price was right, and now this is by far the nicest 1911-P I have seen . My eyes put this at a minimum grade at MS-64, but the eye appeal to me pushes the grade a little higher. Oh yeah, the cliche holds that this coin looks better in person . If chocolately-purple with hints of orange is a color, this is it .

I'm not qualified to grade, but it looks beautiful.

I agree with grape, unfortunately this coin looks to have been tampered with. It looks like something you would find on ebay with a listing title that has a lot of capital letters and exclamation marks in it.

Well, if it has been tampered with, then I didn't pick up on it, or the pics could have been better perhaps. I don't think it is questionable color at this stage of my reasoning yet, just some copper toning.

I'm thinking AU55-ish. Would like to see the coin in natural light, in-hand from different angles before declaring 'details'.

Agree, photos taken in different lighting conditions would be helpful. To me, MS sharpness.

The reverse field looks uneven, appears to have been tampered with and tone back to hid some form of cleaning.

The light is cutting through the patina and your white balance is off, especially the first picture. Adjust WB and back off the light a bit.
PS - Thanks for using a white background, it's very helpful.

Now I am curious what PCGS would say... And later on I will play around with the lighting a bit.

You captured the very nice strike that this coin offers, but the color is not quite right in my opinion . If the price you paid was too much of a right price that might be the reason we're questioning the color of this coin .

I played with the photos a bit, to get a better feel for the coin's surface. My standard approach is to reduce light, eliminate color, and sharpen contrast. When I did that, the contact marks stood out.
The obverse contact marks on the rims and central devices are consistent with bag marks. The lighter contact marks in the fields, however, look more like a lightly circulated coin. There is die polishing, but there also is what appears to be light wear on the bow tie, shoulder, cheek, and hair. The reverse is similar.
I think the AU-something opinions look spot on.
It's always hard to judge color from photos, especially on bronze coins. You have it in hand, and are in a better position to see the color.
