I found a 1972 D penny in a jar containing other miscellaneous change, upon sight of this coin I knew something is different with this coin, it's very shiny, some parts looking as if they are not Copper particularly high parts and the rims, knowing of the 1944 transitional errors I thought, well what if I put a magnet to it , so I did and it stuck to it.... that's where I'm at now, so any help would be greatly appreciated .

Please post images. It sounds very interesting. I don't think I'll sleep tonight if I don't see it.

@chi, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes I agree with @john1 that this cent has been plated by someone after it left the mint. Afun find, but only worth face value.

Most likely plated with nickel which would make it slightly magnetic. Just a novelty coin now.

Yes, I agree as well, plated. No premium I'm afraid, sorry.

If it were a steel cent, the weight would be less and when a magnet is placed near it, it leaps during the attraction. Plating does make it that strong of an attraction.

It is a poor quality of platting. The magnets you use are synthetic high magnetic capacitance. In some cases will glue to the Nickel plating.
COOP is right: In normal natural magnet (recommended for coin check) will not stick on.
Other thing it is the color of plating, I am not sure it is Nickel (by color). XMR (costly) test is required to have right answer for plating.
