Hey everyone! This is my first actual post on here. I can't figure out what's going on with this little fella. Was hoping y'all could take a look?

Looks like PMD to me but someone who knows more will chime in probably, you should post both sides of the coin. It looks like it was under something heavy and dragged around a little. The experts will have a better opinion though.

@mic, first welcome to CCF. Second, it is a little hard to tell, but it looks like the rim of this cent is worn into the inscription and someone has buffed away at Abe's head. I'm not seeing a struck-through grease on this one.

Always post pictures of both sides of the coin.
Not a Struck Through Grease. Not What you have is a damaged coin
either intentionally or accidentally

Also a view on the outside edge of the affected area. It may have been squeezed or altered on the coin? Weight would also help us determine if the coin was sanded off on the affected areas in grams. Normal weight is 3.11 grams.

Hey everyone thanks for the help!

Was able to get a couple of pics in better light and I can definitely see the damage/buffing to the coins edge and to poor Lincoln's head! No respect I tell you...

Also, the coin weighs in at 3.06 so this guy's going into the re-roll jar.

Thanks again!

Best,

Michael

Thanks for the closer view. So the coin was reduced (damaged) by sanding and squeezing the coin. Note how it is out of round? So it is just a face value coin. But even though you are disappointed, now you know how to identify a damaged coin. Damage on a coin reduced the value to just face value. (Or metal melt value on silver coins)
