I was looking at pictures of the pages of the 8000 series of Dansco albums, the quarter albums have space for proof and silver proof. You obviously have to crack the cases open in order to put them in the album. My question is this, what do you do with the extra penny and nickel since those obviously aren't silver? Do you just spend them since they really aren't worth more than face value anyway?

With the remaining coins from the opened set, I'd save the very best examples and unload the rest--perhaps having some fun inserting them into rolls turned into a bank. Might consider giving some away to older kids who show interest in numismatics.

I placed them into my 'other' 8100 series Dansco albums. You know, the ones that hold the Cents, Nickels, and Dimes...

Good question. Album makers should have separate albums for coins made for circulation and Proof coins. I hate that I have to buy proof sets and break them up for my albums (and I HATE error coins in my albums also).

I think that the albums are set up to generally list the same list of coins in the RedBook and cover the issues from different mint marks ans most major popular varieties. The "Proof Only" S mint mark coins are included in the 1970's and forward because the circulated issues prior already has S mint marks. For example 1968 S Jefferson could be found on business strikes as well as proofs. A 1971 S Jefferson is unique to "proof only" issues so it gets a hole and so on. Many collectors who fill albums like Dansco refer to the RedBook when making up sets. They want one coin from every mint for every year. Advanced collectors might want to include ALL the proofs and all the business strikes in their "set". They end up using blank pages or use 2x2's and some have registry sets.

I put all coins in Albums. Once I buy them they are mine so I can do what ever I want with them so into Albums all coins go.

I just don't do albums including proofs. I think I will start now after seeing Dearborns and how nice it looks including the proofs.

Too bad cause I have been using the Whitman and Warmans folders that don't include proofs.

just make sure you push the proof coins in the hole really hard with your whole thumb so they don't fall out.
