(2016) Cumberland Gap Quarter Help

I am so confused with this quarter. To start, the quarter looks like a quarter but the O & R are almost smooth. You can barely feel strike marks. Both sides are a weird color, I thought it was dirt but it doesn't come off. The only raised parts are the 2 bumps on each side, and the bumps are on different parts of the quarter, not on top of each other if that makes sense. There appears to be no disfigurement of the words or picture where the raised metal is, you can kind of tell in the one photo I took of the front Liberty.

I don't know much about coins, my greatest accomplishments so far are 5 silver coins, a steel penny, 1 W mint quarter, and I collected all 50 State Quarters so I appreciate any help you guys can give!

@holl, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes this coin has been damaged in a fire. We call them "campfire coins".

. I agree with fire damaged. Sometimes they come from a house fire or a camp fire.
