What do you see that makes you say it's a fake?

The 6 is too large and unevenly formed. On a genuine 1856, the left point of the curve in the 5 points directly down to the middle of a round serif ball, not to the left side of a deformed ball as here. The whole date logo is terrible.

I still dont understand why people tell others a coin is "FAKE" with no explanation. Coinfrog did But had to be asked why he thought it was fake

Too often members, especially newer ones, have taken no time to research their question before asking it. In less than one minute, anyone can find clear images of this coin on Google for comparison purposes. I'd like to encourage more of that.

But, I might have made more of an effort here and will try to do so in the future.

Even 5 minutes or less of online research (can you say google?) will usually answer a newbie's question. It's annoying seeing posts about 1943 copper cents, 1804 dollars, and the like that were found in grandpa's attic.

And why do many new members with just one post think they won the coin lottery?

I'll bet if you do a random sample of members that post 1 time, its all:

In the error forum:
"Hey, I found this coin in a parking lot that I ran over a few times. Looking at it, this coin is an error how much is it worth"

Or in the Canadian Forums:

"I found the dot cent. I know there are only 3 known but I have the fourth and while you can't see the dot, its there"

Or in the coin forums:

"I found a Copper 1943 cent, yes its heavier than a regular copper, I can see the steel underneath and it sticks to a Magnet, but its authentic"

Or

"I have a Flying Eagle and since the date isn't visible, it must be a 1856"

Or

"My no date Standing Liberty quarter has to be a 1916, even though the date and reverse or from a type 3"

That's why you get a curt response. The OP doesn't care about the coin, all they see is $$$$, so the answer is right to the point. Its not worth wasting time trying to explain, because most don't care.

If my son's teacher told him to "Google It" after every question he asked then they would no longer be my son's teacher.

Remember, we are here to help new members, not send them away!

Also, given how good Bobby is with SEO, the chances are good that Google brought them here for an answer in the first place.

I will try to say this politely...

Either help or get out of the way and let others do it.

Carry on!

That's true. That's why we answer. But the magnetic copper thing is annoying. Everyone knows copper is not magnetic
